The Cambrian is the first geologic Period of the Phanerozoic Eon - Phanerozoic means "visible life" in Latin - the Phanerozoic is the geological period where we can see life with our own eyes, without the aid of a microscope. We're still living in the Phanerozoic, as you might notice you see a living creature!
